15. What is USAT and why do I need a one-day permit?

USAT is the national governing body for triathlons and duathlons in the United States. A one-day license allows an athlete to compete in a USA Triathlon-sanctioned race without purchasing a full $39 membership. The $10 fee provides the athlete with excess accident insurance for that race only.

16. Should I purchase a Full USAT Membership or a One Day Fee?

A one year membership to USAT is $39. Membership includes a subscription to USA Triathlon Times, annual ranking, discounts on merchandise and use of the USAT Travel Desk (can help save bike flying costs). Most importantly you don't have to pay an extra $10 at every USAT race for a one-day membership. So if you're planning on doing at 3-4 USAT races this year, the USAT membership pays for itself. If you do sign up for this race and purchase a one day fee you can use it as a credit towards a full membership. Click here to visit the USAT Membership page.

17. What happens if I don't have my USAT card at packet pick up?

You will have to pay for a one day USAT membership. This is not refundable.

18. How does chip the timing work?

Each athlete will wear a timing chip provided by Tri and Du It Multisport that transmits data to the timing points when the athlete crosses over a timing mat. Tri and Du It Multisport uses the AMB ChipX Transponder and it is the only valid chip to be used during the event.

19. Where do I wear the Timing Chip?

The chip provided will be attached to a neopren strap with a velcro band. The timing chip must be worn on either of your ankles. Do not wear it on your wrist. Relays will exchange their chip in the transition area by their bike.

20. Where do I pick up the Timing Chip?

Timing chips will be handed out on race morning at the registration area. Once you pick up your packet and number go right to the chip table and you will be assigned a chip for the event.

21. Do I have to wear the Timing Chip for the whole race?

Yes, timing mats will be set up to record splits for each leg and transition. If you do not have the chip on when you cross the finish line you are not guaranteed a finish time.

22. Can I keep my Timing Chip?

No. You must return your chip at the end of the race. At the exit of the finish chute you will be asked by volunteers to stop so they can remove your chip. If you fail to return your timing chip it is a $115 fee.
